The Portland Bible College Online Program is excited to share a major update with you! If you’ve taken an online course with us, you know that the courses are filled with rich biblical content taught by our incredible professors. And you also know that the format for most of our lectures is PowerPoint and audio (and with that, all the visual learners died a little inside). Though it’s great to hear the professors’ voices, how much greater would it be to get to see their beautiful faces?
One thing our online students have most requested is the ability to see their professors – whether through video, Zoom calls, live lectures, or really just anything to be able to visualize Lanny saying, “It just does.” And we’re listening! Last semester, we began the massive project of filming our live classes to create an engaging video experience for our online students. This means you’ll see the teaching, not just hear it. You’ll get a feel for the classroom and be able to follow the dynamic interaction that happens in a live PBC setting. And if a student in the front row has a bad hair day, it will live on forever.

The past two semesters, our professors have been working hard to update their slides, adjust their teaching for the online environment, and carefully select their outfits for recording days. The Online team has been setting up classrooms, arranging camera equipment, and trying to discern which of Travis’ jokes should live on in infamy and which should have remained as inside thoughts.
We believe this update will bring a deeper connection to the content and help you feel even more a part of the PBC community, no matter where you are in the world. This Fall, we launched our first all-video course: Mentoring Epistles. We are also in the process of editing and recording additional courses, with the plan of moving all of our core courses to video. As we make these changes to the PBC Online for-credit program, we will also be reflecting them in PBC Access for those of you who audit our classes. Thank you for your feedback over the years. We’re so excited to be starting this project to bring the classroom to you wherever you are!
