Alumni Highlight: John J. Peters

About John:

After graduating from Portland Bible College in 2000, John J. Peters moved back to California to help with the church planted by his parents. John eventually wanted to further his education and started on-campus classes at Regent College in Vancouver, Canada in 2005. While in Vancouver, he enjoyed several PBC alumni connections at Southgate Church in Langley and characterizes his time at Regent College as enormously important, planting many intellectual seeds that have born good fruit in his book. In 2008, he felt God’s call to move to Virginia. John served Pastors Michael and Heather Giroux at Citizen Heights Church in Washington DC. God soon called Josh to pursue a Ph.D., which he did not want to do. Nonetheless, he was accepted to the Regent University School of Divinity Ph.D. program in Virginia Beach and relocated there in April of 2011. He joined Wave Church in May 2011, where he has taught many classes, leads a weekly men’s Bible study, and serves with kids. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2018 with a dissertation focusing on the author Luke and ancient history writing. Published in June 2022, the book Luke among the Ancient Historians is a revised version of his dissertation which so far has been well received in the academic community. At present, he is working on a second book that endeavors to answer many of the questions raised in the first book. His passion for the advanced study of the Bible was birthed during his four years at PBC. The book can be purchased at all of the major online retailers or if you would like a signed or personalized copy (within the USA) at the Amazon price, feel free to contact him by email here:  johnpe2@mail.regent.edu.
